#StylistWeLove - Amy Sessions talks FW13 Accessories Trends...

Emphasising the feeling of a return to understated dressing, accessories were no exception for FW13. This was the season of the no-logo bag and the perfectly proportioned pump. As an alternative to default black, grey was welcomed as the new go-to colour for accessories making them great investment pieces that will transcend the seasons as style classics. As the polar opposite to the pared back feel seen across most of the runways for fall, there was still the ever present sprinkling of designers that chose to use texture and print as seen in shearling clutches at Proenza Schlouler and animal print pumps at Burberry Prorsum, making these easy additions to instantly update your wardrobe.

SHADES OF GREY: The grey accessory felt like a natural evolution for fall from SS13’s obsession with white. Seen at Christian Louboutin and Gianvito Rossi in its chicest and most simple form- the single sole pump, and at Lanvin and Maison Martin Margiela in super-sleek bag form, this is one colour that will transcend seasons to come.

ANIMAL INSTINCT: Like it or not there is no getting away from animal print this season. Look to Valentino and Saint Laurent for super-cool shoulder bags and Tabitha Simmons whose grey leopard ankle boots will add a little extra bite to any outfit. For a downtown take, a simple slipper from Burberry Prorsum will nail off-duty chic.

WALK LIKE A MAN: Simone Rocha first championed with conviction the masculine brogue for her entire SS13 runway show, one season on and it’s taken hold. Avoid pairing back to anything midi-length as it can look frumpy, shorts and cigarette pants work well here instead for French-girl chic.

THE NO-LOGO BAG: It started seasons ago at Celine and has gradually filtered through fashions heavyweights, making the no logo bag your go-to for FW13. Celine is still the front-runner in terms of keeping it clean, but Sophie Hulme and Victoria Beckham have both offered up favourites for fall in clean colour blocks and Khaki greens. Keep hardware simple and shapes crisp in the coolest shades of navy, cement, putty and investment-worthy black and these pieces will last a lifetime.
