Fashion Film: The Great Gatsby

By Lori on Nov 08 2013

Every now and then a film comes along where it's aesthetic over shines everything going on. It's so visually pleasing that it makes you want to take a photo of each individual scene, because everything is so perfectly coordinated together.

The latest rendition of The Great Gatsby is one of the most beautifully shot and well thought out films in history. The decadence of the twenties is really portrayed through the entire sparkle of the film, from the thousands of detail sequins and pearls on every dress to the dazzling glitter bubbles of the champagne. Every detail was to pure excellence thanks to renowned costume and set designer Catherine Martin.

Catherine definitely had her work cut out for her, the film had thousands of extras that each required a detailed costume that would make them individually stand out amongst each other, creating a sea of twenties glamorous fashion. Just for an idea of how much work was put into the film, the Brooks Brothers supplied 1,200 costumes, that’s just on the men’s side. Miuccia Prada helped out on the women’s side, designing 40 background dresses as well as some of Daisy’s (played by Carey Mulligan) costumes.

It was Daisy's character that took the spotlight for fashion in the film. From her signature all white outfits, to being draped in jewels and pearls, Mary Jane heels and dropped hem embellished dresses to die for. A truly spectacular and unforgettable costume wardrobe.

We've selected our preloved Great Gatsby inspired picks in the hopes of one day being as glamorous as the beloved Daisy Buchanan.
