One of our most anticipated Christmas outings of the year is to go see the tree of the season at London's best hotel, Claridges. Every year, Claridges picks a notable fashion designer to decorate their 22ft Christmas tree in the main lobby of the hotel, just under their sweeping staircase.
The tree has been decorated in the past by some of the world's top fashion houses. John Galliano had the honour of decorating the tree on behalf of Dior two years in a row. One following the theme of ice with an all white and blue exhibition of vintage Dior outfits and a chorus of carol singers. On his second venture for Claridge's, John Galliano went with a less traditional approach with a beautiful aquatic paradise with his Under The Sea Tree.
The favourite though has to be Alber Elbaz's tree for Lanvin. A traditional yet modern approach to Christmas, Lanvin handmade beautiful character puppets, rocking horses with zebra print, personal baubbles and even a Christmas fairy!
This year Claridge's long time guests and friends, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took on the fashionable festive task. The tree was unveiled two days ago with the usual celebrity opening night, with guests such as Poppy Delevingne and David Gandy. The tree stuck to a traditional design but drew onto their Sicilian roots with hand crafted puppets and hand painted Italian baubles.
Commenting on their creation Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said “When we think of London, we always think of Claridge's and of its typically English atmosphere that fascinates us and makes us fall in love with the city every time as if it were the first. Our Christmas tree isn't only a celebration of Christmas as we celebrate it in Italy, but it is at the same time a tribute to the artisanal Italian tradition, the same that we love to export worldwide with everything we do."
The tree is now on display for the public, for a fashion lover, it is a must to see!
