The sun is finally beginning to shine so it could be about time to invest in a new pair of sunnies for the season. Fortunately, BuyMyWardrobe has tonnes currently on offer in various shapes, styles and sized frames. It’s so easy to get carried away (particularly when that fabulous pair of vintage 70s oversized frames by Nina Ricci are staring you straight in the face!) however, remember, just like we choose specific cuts of jeans and dress shapes to flatter and suit our figures, we should also take face shape into consideration when selecting the perfect pair of shades. Sunglasses are a strong statement accessory and can often change your entire look so it’s important to get it right. Typically, there are 4 different face shape categories commonly found in women; these are square, round, oval and heart shaped. Once you have determined what face shape you are, use these simple tips below and you can begin to do what I like to call ‘shop-to-suit’ to find the most suitable style for you.
Aviators and rounded frames are a great style for square shaped faces; the curved corners help to soften the strong defined jaw line. Remember to think about proportion… i.e. the smaller the face, the smaller the frame.
Don’t mimic your round face with round frames (particularly smaller ones) instead opt for boxy angular styles.
If you have a wide forehead, high cheekbones and a narrow or pointed chin then you have a heart shaped face. A classic cat eye with upswept corners will help accentuate your face shape the best and add a visual lift to your features, balancing out a pointed chin.
If you have an Oval face then count yourself lucky as pretty much any style will suit. However it’s proportion that is more important here than shape; if you have small features then avoid large thick frames.
