Whether you’re new to BuyMyWardrobe, or want to increase your chance of selling your items already listed on your profile, here are our top tips for getting the most out of your item listings. By following our simple guidelines, this should help your preloved pieces increase in visibility and interest.
Write as much relevant information about the item as possible – even if you think it’s obvious from the photo. Every word in the description becomes searchable to buyers, so if somebody is looking for a specific style, they’re more like to find it if you include:
Style – for example, the type of sleeve, the style and colour of the print, the height of the heel on a shoe, what you would wear it with or any celebrities spotted wearing the same item.
Sizing – always state what the label says, as well as choosing the UK conversion size in the drop down box. Often, customers know what size they take in a certain brand, and if you believe the item to be small or large fitting, it always helps to state this, so the buyer has a better idea of what to expect when it arrives.
They say a picture says a thousand words, so be sure to include as many clear images as you can. It is important to show the exact condition of the item – so if you are using internet stock photos, please also be sure to include some of your own images of the actual item for sale. Photograph and mention any flaws to avoid any disappointment.
For handbags especially, clearly photograph the authenticity details such as any logo’s, branded hardware, labels inside and the serial number, to clearly show the buyer that your item is genuine.
We find that a fuss-free clear background works best to showcase your item for sale. If you have a plain wall or pretty patterned wallpaper, try hanging your pieces on a nice hanger against it, or even better – use a willing model!
Preloved shoppers are very savvy and always after a bargain. If your item is priced competitively from the beginning, this will give it more chance of being snapped up quickly. As a guideline we usually recommend that items should be priced with atleast 50% off the RRP. If there are signs of wear or the style is a little dated, it should be less than this to give it a good chance of selling. If the item is currently in season, brand new or sold out, then you can sometimes get up to 75% of the retail value. Customers may decide to make a lower offer, and if you choose to accept this, simply edit the price online and re-list.
