Our Race For Life Journey

By Guest Writers on May 31 2014

You may have been following our recent quest to raise money for Cancer Research by taking on the Race For Life. Well the big day has finally arrived, the boutique is closed (for this Saturday only, sorry - all for a good cause!) We've swapped our heels for running shoes and sacrificed last night's cocktails in exchange for carbs. Although not the strictest of girls, we've been doing our best to make small changes to prove to ourselves it's possible to make a big difference.

We were originally inspired by Hannah Foxley's story of survival, but since we signed up for the race, we learned that she sadly passed away. This only made us more determined to raise money for such an important charity, to help others affected by cancer continue with their battle. Here's a little insight into our journey and progress so far...

  • Not just limiting our training to running, we've mixing up our cardio routines in the gym.
  • Work breakfasts have transformed from pastries to porridge.
  • Fresh salads, fish and chicken have all been staple parts of our new diets.
  • We've been running (probably not quite as often as we should!) around Hyde Park with an audience of sunbathers.
  • The recent spell of good weather has really helped keep our spirits high - although surprisingly we've found a little drizzle is quite refreshing - thanks April showers!
  • Green smoothies, including kale, root ginger and protein powder help to maintain energy levels and curb those sugar cravings - we've even stopped taking sugar in our coffee!

We're even going to keep up the running after today. Kal is thinking of entering the 10k challenge this summer, and Gemma has secured herself a place in next year's London Marathon!

Thank you SO much to all of our friends, family and fans who have sponsored us so far. We each have our own personal inspiration for running the Race For Life so your support is greatly appreciated.

P.S - if you've not donated already and would like to give whatever you can - here's your last chance!

See you at the finish line!
