Five Fab Fashion Shopping Apps

By Sara Delaney on Jun 06 2014

It may have escaped your notice, but one of the things I love about being a stylist is the shopping. It’s not unheard of for me to be whisking a client around a bunch of boutiques on a mission, only to find that the very thing I’m suggesting she invest in, I start lusting after myself. Then generally, once said client is successfully dispatched for the day with a stash full of stylish new looks, it’s not unheard of for me to circle back and nab the elusive item I’ve spotted earlier for myself. Needless to say this becomes an expensive habit, but also it’s kind of time consuming making mental notes on what caught my eye and then heading back for the purchase.

This is one of the main reasons I’ve become a big fan of the shopping app. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve managed to swipe my way to a purchase whilst my client is busy trying on outfits in the changing rooms, or before we’ve even left the checkout station. So I thought I’d share a few of my current faves with you on

First up is Pop Sugar’s Shopstyle. I’ve been using this baby for years. It allows you to search up an item from your favourite store or brand. You can also browse by new arrivals, what’s trending and what’s on sale.

Once you’ve narrowed your search down, you can hone in on your prey by running a further filter search using colour or price. Hitting the ‘buy’ button takes you straight to the store purchase page. My favourite function on this app is the Sale Alert button. I’ve snagged many a bargain by simply putting a sale alert on an item I’m drooling over. You then sit back, relax, and presto – a little email hits your inbox some time later, giving you intel on who has your coveted item on sale.

PS Dept. – ask the experts anything.

I heard about this app over my Easter break to New York via one of my celeb blogger buddies. She was showing me a fab Givenchy necklace, which had been sold out everywhere. Using the app she chased her quarry down in Sweden and was mailed it the next day.

The beauty of this app is that it works through utilizing real live stylists in stores. You can either click on one of the stores and then browse what they have on offer, or ask a stylist directly for something you are trying to get your hands on. There’s also a facility to take a snap of an item you might have spotted on your travels, which a stylist will then try to nab for you.

House Account

This one is all about luxury boutique shops. Mostly USA stores, but with the advent of our new global lives many of them will ship internationally. These are specialty stores and the app uses location-based techie stuff to help you locate stores if you want to go old school and actually feel the merchandise.

For more of a UK based experience try Mallzee. This app covers the high street end of the market with brands like ASOS, Urban Outfitters, and Mango on board. It has the facility to ask your buddies their opinion, thus making it the perfect way to shop with your mates without even having to leave the comfort of your sofa.

The Hunt

This is more of a ‘seek and ye shall find’ shopping app for the obsessive shopper. If there’s something you’re having trouble tracking down you can post a photo to get the community’s help in finding it. Alternatively, you can help other equally fanatical shoppers by responding to any of the zillions of hunts which are posted on this fun app.

So that’s it – my current faves, get busy and get downloading… you’ll have to excuse me now as a sale alert on that Sophie Hulme bag I’ve been stalking has just popped into my inbox…
