By Alex Churton on Jul 15 2013

If you’re looking for style inspiration then Amanda Start is your lady! After leaving the finance world, Amanda pursued her love of fashion and set up her blog The Online Stylist, a place to escape to for fashion, lifestyle and food inspiration. From outfit posts to ‘the shopping list’ make sure you tune in for a daily fashion fix. We talked to Amanda about why she loves blogging and her fashion blogging tips…

How long have you been blogging?
Since 2008 when most of my friends still didn’t know what a blog was! My first blog was called 39 & Counting but then I switched over to The Online Stylist once I’d turned forty a year later.

What inspired you to start a blog?
I’ve always loved writing and having taken redundancy from a finance role I decided to leave the numbers well and truly behind and concentrate on words instead.

What subjects do you love blogging about?
Fashion, food, lifestyle and the general meanderings inside my head!

What has been your highlight so far?
That would have to be working with my all time favourite designer, Michael Kors for his Covent Garden store opening campaign in 2012. An absolute dream come true for me!

What is your personal style?
Simplistic chic with the odd injection of a luxe accessory here and there.

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
That often changes from season to season but I absolutely love the comfort and minimal style of a Bauken jersey jumpsuit that I bought a couple of years ago.

What other blogs do you follow?
I have so many blogs that I try to stop by on a regular basis but I really love Lou, Boo’s & Shoes, Atlantic Pacific, Cupcakes & Cashmere, and Cheetah Is The New Black. I have a whole host of Tumblr blogs full of beautiful pictures that I like to lose myself in and also receive daily updates from The Glitter Guide.

Any tips for those aspiring bloggers out there starting their own blog?
Whilst it’s getting harder and harder with blogging now so commonplace, try and find your niche or the thing that makes your voice stand out. Always be true to yourself, write about what you love and have patience if you want your blog following to grow. And don’t forget that Twitter is your best friend!

What are your top 3 pre-loved picks from BuyMyWardrobe?
They would be the Michael Kors oversized navy jersey dress (there has to be Kors), the Alberta Ferretti silver Mary Janes as they made me sigh and quite frankly, I’m glad they’re not my size as I’m on a temporary shopping ban and last but not least, the Tod’s Oxblood leather tote – a beautiful everyday classic.
