The Jan Closet Challenge- Can you make £200 from your closet by the end of January?

There is never a better time than January to make some major changes to your life and lifestyle!

If you've yet to make a new years resolution or tired of making the same old ones that you never keep, here's a challenge that will help you not only detox your life but make you some extra pocket money along the way.

A closet clear out is not only a great life detox but also a great way to make some cash for your new seasons wardrobe.

Before you begin - read stylist Sara Delaney's closet clear out rules. Once you're ready to commit and have a pile of items you no longer wear but know others would love, then sign up to the challenge at BuyMyWardrobe, the UK's trusted fashion resale community.

BuyMyWardrobe only accept items for sale that were at least £100 new so remember you can only list designer items or high end high street items from the likes of Whistles, All Saints and Karen Millen.

To join as a seller you must sign up as a member and apply to become a seller. Sign up is easy, all we require is some information about you and the type of items you will be selling. Once approved you'll have free access to sell your closet to our fast growing community of fashion lovers!

Here are our top tips for effective listing and getting the most promotion for your items...

- Description

Write as much relevant information about the item as possible – even if you think it’s obvious from the photo. Every word in the description becomes searchable to buyers, so if somebody is looking for a specific style, they’re more like to find it if you include details about the brand, fit and style.

- Pricing

Preloved shoppers are very savvy and always after a bargain. If your item is priced competitively from the beginning, this will give it more chance of being snapped up quickly. As a general guideline we usually recommend that items should be priced with at least 50% off the RRP. Customers may decide to make a lower offer, and if you choose to accept this, simply edit the price online and re-list.

- Photographs

They say a picture says a thousand words, so be sure to include as many clear images as you can. It is important to show the exact condition of the item – so if you are using internet stock photos, please also be sure to include some of your own images of the actual item for sale. Photograph and mention any flaws to avoid any disappointment.

A little effort into staging your photo's can go a long way - we recommend using a willing model, or hanging the item neatly against a cool background. Add a couple of props such as flowers, fashion magazines, accessories or packaging to make the first photo stand out on the product page.
