For many seasons now, French and Scandinavian style has been a reigning trend - so much so that we’ve all invested in the monochrome basics of white shirt, blazer, grey jumper, oversized coat, black rimmed glasses, leather jacket and chelsea boots as our staple wardrobe pieces. But move over androgyny and simplicity, change is a foot! This summer we’re going to see the return of the baby doll dress!
Less Paris Hilton more Kate Moss, the new baby doll is best done glam rock style. Colours are either crisp whites or colourful prints.
Chloe and Louis Vuitton styles were laser cut white cotton styles with broderie anglais influences. Fendi kept it simple with Aline shift dresses in beautiful prints. Blumarine did what they do best- flirty and girly. Stella McCartney's slip dresses, perfectly feminine but still directional featured organic prints and lace cut outs.
On the more extravagant end Dolce and Gabanna, Saint Laurent, Valentino and Isabel Marant, went for more structured shapes in exquisite fabrics and embellishment.
Which ever style you opt for, the noticeable difference to previous bohemian eras is that this time the bags are small and delicate, boots are knee vs ankle length and sandals are chunky not delicate. Jewellery is minimal and hair and makeup is natural.
